The Classroom Kiosk function allows you to manage student hall passes through a kiosk in the classroom. For example, you may designate a computer within the classroom as the kiosk for hall passes. The school will designate which hall pass locations are available in the Classroom Kiosk. Students may scan or manually enter their student ID in the kiosk and initiate hall passes to those designated locations. Student hall pass restrictions are enforced. The Classroom Kiosk is not limited to students in your assigned sections. Hall passes initiated in the Classroom Kiosk are auto-approved with you as the Initiator (along with "Classroom Kiosk") and Approver. Students may also view and end their hall passes from the Classroom Kiosk.
The Classroom Kiosk can be accessed in Focus from the Hall Passes screen, or from a kiosk device by selecting the "Classroom Hall Pass Kiosk" mode after logging into the kiosk.
1. In the menu, click Students. Then click Hall Passes.
2. Click the Classroom Kiosk button.
The Classroom Kiosk is launched and ready for students to use.
To access this functionality on a kiosk device, select the "Classroom Hall Pass Kiosk" mode after logging into the kiosk.
3. The student requesting a hall pass will enter their student ID and tap the green arrow.
4. The student will tap their Destination.
5. If there are multiple locations set up for the destination, the student will tap the Location.
The Total Time and Travel Time for the hall pass may populate if defined by the school.
The Total Time and Travel Time cannot be edited through the kiosk. In Focus on the Hall Passes screen, teachers can either extend the time on an existing pass or create a new pass for the student.
Passes cannot be scheduled for a later date or time in the Classroom Kiosk. Passes can only be created for immediate use.
6. The student will tap Create Hall Pass.
A message will briefly display indicating the pass was successfully created, or, if there is a restriction in place, a message will display indicating the hall pass was unable to be created and to see the teacher for assistance.
7. To end a hall pass, the student will enter their student ID and tap the green arrow.
The student's current hall pass will display.
8. The student will tap End.
A message will briefly display indicating the pass was ended.
The "Hall Pass Arrivals & Departures" kiosk mode allows teachers to quickly view student arrivals and departures to and from your classroom during the current period.
The kiosk functionality can be used on a computer by adding /kiosk to the end of the Focus URL.
1. After logging into the kiosk, tap the pull-down and select the Hall Pass Arrivals & Departures option.
2. Your room for the current period will be automatically selected in the room pull-down, but can be changed if needed.
3. Tap the Kiosk button.
The Arrivals card lists passes with a destination set as the selected room, or passes where the student is returning to the room after checking out of another destination (e.g. a student has a pass to the media center, and has checked out from the medica center and is returning to the room). Active passes that have not exceeded the allotted time have a green outline. If the pass has exceeded its allotted time, the pass will have a red outline.
The Departures card lists passes that are are departing from the selected room during the current period. For example, if a student has a pass to the media center, the pass will display in the Departures card until the students checks out of the media center, at which time the pass will display in the Arrivals card. Requested passes that require approval will have a blue outline. Active passes that have not exceeded the allotted time will have a green outline. Departure passes that are a round trip to the same classroom (e.g. restroom) will have a red outline if the student does not return within the allotted time.
When a new pass is created during the period to arrive or depart, a "ding" sound will play.
